Flat Stanley

   Flat Stanley Class
Our class began the year by reading the book Flat Stanley, an adventure about a  boy who was flattened by his bulletin board as he slept. He then went on to many adventures made possible by his new flat status.  His parents even mailed him to a friend for a vacation.

Each student in our room got into the Flat Stanley project by creating their own Flat Stanley.  They wrote a letter to a friend or relative with a request that the recipient of Flat Stanley take him along to work or a special place in their area, photograph him, and write about what he got to do in their area.  Then we’ve asked that they send him on to someone else.  Our Flat Stanley packets have been mailed out with the request to have him finish his adventures and return to our classroom by the beginning of May.

Flat Stanley’s original destinations are Nicollet, New Ulm, and Hugo, Minnesota (two of our classmates have relatives who live in Hugo!) Colorado, Texas, and Taiwan.  Flat Stanley hosts can respond by emailing our class or sending a post card; or we’ll just await his final arrival.

Reading for Classrooms Care

Students in our classroom are well into the Scholastic Classrooms Care  program for this year.  This year’s program requires that each student read 10 books by mid-December.  We have some avid readers who have already accomplished this goal, and are continuing to read more.  The class is committed to filling the reading chart if possible, even though only ten books each are required.  Each person can contribute according to their own ability, and together we can help others.  The Classrooms Care program is committed to donating $1 million in books to needy schools, based on the participation of students like ours.

God’s Time is the Right Time

Welcome from Mrs. Barb Polzin to 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade!

I am looking forward to a great year under the theme God’s Time is the Right Time.  As a community of learners, affectionately known as The Reading Dragons, we plan to enjoy a lot of exciting learning.  We’re especially anticipating many opportunities to read and enjoy great stories, starting with our focus on the New Testament stories from God’s Word.

Things that will not change in this new school year will be the working together to learn all that we can.  Under God’s grace, we’ll work to put our best effort into using the gifts and abilities with which we have been blessed by God.  Together we will make our classroom a great place to be.

Humble yourselves under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 1 Peter 5:6
